South Las Vegas Strip remains closed to traffic Monday
Las Vegas Boulevard remained closed between Tropicana Avenue and Sunset Road on Monday afternoon, and it was unclear when it would reopen to traffic as Las Vegas police investigated Sunday’s deadly mass shooting near Mandalay Bay, local transit officials said.
Surrounding roads and Interstate 15 were clogged as morning commuters looked for alternative routes to get around the Strip.
Hacienda Avenue was closed Frank Sinatra Drive and Reno Avenue, while Russell Road was reopened to traffic, said Angela Castro, a spokeswoman for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
Bus service was interrupted along the Strip, with detours on the Deuce, Strip/ Downtown Express and Route 119, Castro said.
Both directions of I-15 were closed between Blue Diamond Road and Charleston Boulevard for several hours overnight after the shooting, but the freeway was opened in time for the morning commute.
Airline traffic resumed operations early Monday after more than 20 flights were diverted away from Las Vegas immediately after the shooting, said Christine Crews, a spokeswoman for McCarran International Airport. Many of those jetliners were diverted to Phoenix, along with airports in Los Angeles, Ontario, Salt Lake City and Denver, according to flightradar24.com.

Ride-hailing companies helping out
Ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft are offering free or discounted rides Monday for anyone wanting to donate blood, visit hospitals and reach a family reunification center.
Uber was providing free rides to the following locations, which Lyft offered up to $40 in discounts with the code VEGASHOPE.
The offer with both companies is offered at the following locations:
■ United Blood Services, 6930 West Charleston Boulevard
■ United Blood Services, 601 Whitney Ranch Drive in Henderson
■ Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, 3186 Maryland Parkway
■ University Medical Center, 1800 Charleston Boulevard
■ Desert Springs Hospital, 2075 Flamingo Road
■ Valley Hospital, 620 Shadow Lane
■ UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center
■ Metropolitan Police Department headquarters, 400 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Building B
Lyft was also offering discounted rides for those wanting to donate blood at Labor Health and Welfare Clinic, 7135 W. Sahara Ave., #100, and also at United Blood Services, 4950 W. Craig Road, both in Las Vegas.
