More than 80,000 celebrated Mexican Independence over the weekend

It’s going to take something to beat this weekend’s record number of 80,000 fans, who made our city the epicenter of this year’s Mexican Independence weekend. Concert promoter, Live Nation, alone brought in 10 different acts at seven different venues through the 48 hours of excitement. Latin music’s hottest superstars included:

• Iconic Mexican rock band Maná became the first-ever Latin act to sell out two arena concerts over the holiday weekend, jam-packing MGM Grand Garden Arena with a total of 25,000 fans. It brought to an end Maná‘s successful international tour with a big party, performing an extensive repertoire of their greatest hits. It was a top-of-the-line production complete with a surprise mariachi for their devoted fans.

“The concerts in Las Vegas were amazing! The audience was incredible and euphoric. We had so much fun at the celebration of independence. “Viva, Mexico!” said Fher Olvera from Maná.

• Marking another milestone over the weekend was Alejandro Fernandez, who became the first Latin artist to perform a solo concert at T-Mobile Arena since it opened in 2016. The legendary Mexican singer has become a highlight of each year’s line-up, performing over two hours of his iconic hits and being joined by a full mariachi band midway through the set. The show reached a fever pitch when the audience formed a gigantic Mexican flag by wearing red, white and green hats.

• Another legendary singer-songwriter, the “poet of the people,” Marco Antonio Solís, served up a majestic show at Mandalay Bay Events Center, co-headlining with special guests, Latin Grammy winners Jesse & Joy. Salsa king Marc Anthony and his band made everyone stand up and dance to his infectious music, 24 hours later at Mandalay Bay Events Center. Newcomer Christian Nodal, the youngest Mexican regional breakthrough artist, opened the show with his mariachi music.

• Latin icons Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez performed their spectacular residency concerts this past weekend at Park Theater and the Axis showroom at Planet Hollywood, respectively. It marked the very first time that both superstar Latino artists performed their residency shows over the same holiday weekend in Las Vegas.

• Additionally, Ricardo Arjona brought his beautifully staged show, “Circo Soledad,” to The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas along with smart, clever and poignant lyrics everyone sang along to. Finally Miguel Bosé wowed the audience with his top hits, interacting nonstop with his audience at the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms.

Orlando, Florida came in as No. 2 and New York City at No. 3. Los Angeles hit a lowly 12th spot with rainy Seattle coming in last place at No. 20. To view the full report and the city rankings click here.
