Cloud cover over Las Vegas may hamper solar eclipse viewing Monday

Updated August 18, 2017 - 9:48 pm

Expected cloud cover over the Las Vegas Valley could affect view of the solar eclipse Monday following a warm and sunny weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

“It’s likely that it’ll probably affect the viewing, considering there’s going to be an abundant amount of moisture,” meteorologist Chelsea Kryston said.

The weather service predicts 60 to 65 percent cloud cover during the eclipse, especially in the northwest part of the valley near Mount Charleston.

Friday’s high was 104 degrees, and Saturday is expected to climb to 105 degrees, Kryston said.

Sunday will be sunny with a high of 100 degrees.

Clouds creep in Monday, with a high of 95 degrees and chances of scattered thunderstorms all day.

But don’t fret — because clouds aren’t expected to block off the sunshine, Kryston said she was sure valley residents will still be able to see some of the eclipse.

Tuesday should have a high of 99 with chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon, which will last until Thursday.
