Frontier adding Las Vegas flights, local crew base
Frontier Airlines on Thursday added four more cities to a roster of new destinations scheduled to launch this summer from Las Vegas, and also announced the opening a new crew base that could create local jobs and improve the carrier’s on-time performance.
The Denver-based airline will offer $59 one-way introductory fares for flights from McCarran International to airports in Memphis, Tennessee; Des Moines, Iowa; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Madison, Wisconsin. The year-round service begins in August.
That’s on top of new flights announced earlier this year to Washington D.C.’s Dulles International Airport; Indianapolis; Bismarck, North Dakota; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, beginning in June and July.
By August, Frontier will fly to 24 cities with 157 weekly departures from Las Vegas.
“We’re flying where people in underserved markets want to go, and that includes Las Vegas,” Frontier spokesman Richard Oliver said. “What’s great about planes is that they’re not a fixed asset, You can place them where people want to go and where the demand is greatest.”
Frontier also announced plans to eventually open a new crew base at McCarran as a way to beef up its presence in Las Vegas, improve operational reliability and potentially create new jobs in Las Vegas.
The move would allow pilots and flight attendants to begin and end their trips at the new crew base by the end of 2018, Oliver said.
“The crew base allows us more flexibility,” Oliver said. “Right now, our Vegas crews come in the day before their work shift, but this will allow us to have workers who can start and finish in Las Vegas.”

■ Las Vegas to Memphis, Tennessee: Service starts Aug. 14, with trips offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Flights leave McCarran at 7:55 a.m. and arrive in Memphis at 1:18 p.m. Return flights leave Memphis at 2:05 p.m. and arrive in McCarran at 3:40 p.m.
■ Las Vegas to Des Moines, Iowa: Service starts Aug. 14, with trips offered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Flights leave McCarran at 4:15 p.m. and arrive in Des Moines at 9:05 p.m. Return flights leave Des Moines at 9:55 p.m. and arrive at McCarran at 11:04 p.m.
■ Las Vegas to Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Service starts Aug. 15, with trips offered Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Flights leave McCarran at 3:50 p.m. and arrive in Cedar Rapids at 8:53 p.m. Return flights leave Cedar Rapid 9:45 p.m. and arrive at McCarran at 11:01 p.m.
■ Las Vegas to Madison, Wisconsin: Service starts Aug. 15, with trips offered Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Flights leave McCarran at 7:55 a.m and arrive in Madison at 1:12 pm. Return flights leave Madison at 2 p.m. and arrive at McCarran at 3:42 p.m.
