The 2016 Honda Civic recently was named the Autoguide.com North American Car of the Year by 53 international automotive journalists. The vehicle’s popularity at Findlay Honda Henderson is illustrated by the fact 35 percent of the dealership’s sales in May were for the Civic, which combines excellent mileage with impressive performance and sporty interior and exterior features to become a sought-after model.
Available in the four-door Civic Sedan and the Civic two-door Coupe, there is ample reason to look at the vehicle when shopping for a new car.
Both models come standard with the 158-horsepower direct overhead cam (DOHC) i-VTEC four-cylinder engine along with continuously variable transmission (CVT) or six-speed manual transmission.
Civic Sedan models come in the following trims: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L and Touring. The Civic coupe is the same except for the additional LX-P trim. EX-T and higher trims will enjoy the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine’s 174-horsepower and additional torque.
The base LX trim Civic Sedan offers many features which until recent years were reserved for higher-end vehicles. These include LED daytime running lights, expanded-view driver side mirrors, 5-inch central display screen, a rearview camera, Bluetooth (phone and audio), a USB port and Pandora connectivity.
The EX and higher trims offer an additional selection of features not previously seen in the compact segment. Available features include keyless entry and ignition, 7-inch touch screen, Honda’s camera-based LaneWatch lane-change assistant, eight- to 10-speaker audio system and smartphone integration with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Las Vegans, in particular, will appreciate the remote start feature enabling users to start their car and A/C from up to 60 yards away.
With regard to performance, Edmunds.com reports, “In Edmunds testing, a Civic Touring Sedan sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, which is what the old sport-focused Civic Si used to achieve.”
The new model is lighter with a redesigned engine and chassis, sharper with a revised suspension for more lateral support while cornering and faster thanks to the turbocharged and intercooled engine. Despite the additional power, the turbocharged models still achieve an EPA estimated 31 mpg city and 42 mpg highway. All Civic nonmanual models have an EPA estimated 35 mpg combined.
Safety features and driver assisted technologies are highlighted by Honda Sensing features that include collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.
Findlay Honda Henderson sales consultant Cathy Boyd said, “The vehicle is multifaceted, impressive looking and fun to drive.
“There is great history with the Civic,” said Boyd, the dealership’s top sales consultant. “This the 10th generation of the Civic, which speaks for itself.
“It’s a remarkable car because it crosses all demographics. Everyone from teenagers to seniors love the new Civic and so do all generations in between. We have such a diverse group of buyers of all walks of life.”
