East Las Vegas school locked down for several hours after nearby shooting

An elementary school was locked down for several hours after a shooting in an east valley neighborhood Friday afternoon, police said.

About 1:40 p.m., the Metropolitan Police Department received a report of a shooting in the 2000 block of Winterwood Boulevard, near East Sahara Avenue and South Nellis Boulevard, spokesman Michael Rodriguez said.

Nearby Wengert Elementary School, 2001 Winterwood Blvd., was placed on lockdown and Clark County School District police assisted Metro, Rodriguez said. No students and only a few personnel were in the building, he added.

A perimeter was established in the area and police were looking for a man suspected in the shooting. Metro Lt. Timothy Hatchett said no one was injured and no one was arrested.

The lockdown and perimeter had ended had ended by late afternoon, police said.
