Las Vegas theme night on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” on Monday evening proved disastrous for singer, guitarist and former Strip headliner Charo, who was booted from the show after her wedding chapel routine with pro partner Keo Motsepe.
It was Keo’s fourth elimination during the first three weeks of shows. Their foxtrot dance to The Dixie Cups’ “Going to the Chapel,” a salute to our wedding chapel industry, was quieter than her prior efforts and lambasting of the judges last week. One online writer even suggested that she might murder Bruno Tonioli during the broadcast.
Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles and Sasha Farber danced the quickstep to Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas.” Low-scoring actor Mr. T, dressed in white tuxedo with tails, danced a foxtrot with Kym Johnson honoring Dean Martin from The Rat Pack days when the strongman was roasted here in Las Vegas.
There was a tango tribute paid to Britney Spears by actress Heather Morris, who danced with Alan Bersten, who substituted for the still-injured Maks Chmerkovskiy, hinting that he’ll be back probably next week. Heather and Alan went “Toxic” and scored 33 points.
Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan danced a samba with Artem Chigvintsev with some shaking of their bon bons to herald Ricky Martin’s premiere Wednesday night at Monte Carlo. “Magic Mike Live” at The Hard Rock Hotel also had a nod in a jazz number by MLB legend David Ross and Lindsay Arnold that included his bare-chested strip moment.
Singer-actress Erika Jayne and her partner, Gleb Savchenko, visited the cast of “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace last week to get some inspiration for Monday night’s performance. The duo performed the jive to “Take Me to Heaven” from “Absinthe’s” “Skates of Hell” act. Erika wore a “Green Fairy”-inspired dress, and Gleb donned a Gazillionaire-inspired suit.
Producers had decorated the “DWTS” set with showgirls and gaming tables, so it was only natural that our Las Vegas darling duo of siblings Derek Hough and Julianne Hough spotlight their upcoming touring dance show. Mr. T was at the bottom of the leaderboard, while singer Normani Kordei landed at the top one point ahead of Nancy and Heather.
