Mark Anderson has been at the Review-Journal since January 1999. He covered UNLV football for 17 seasons before moving to the men’s basketball beat in January 2016, and was president of the Football Writers Association of America in 2016. Anderson returned to the football beat in 2017 and still covers men’s basketball. Before coming to the R-J, he covered UNR football for five seasons at the Reno Gazette-Journal and was the high school sports reporter for the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat from 1988-94. He is a native of Tallahassee and a graduate of the University of Florida.

UNLV men’s, women’s basketball fan event Oct. 19

The UNLV men’s and women’s basketball teams will take part in a fan event at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19 outside Sam Boyd Stadium. It will take place before the Rebels’ football game against Air Force at 7 p.m.

College football officials are concerned about the length of games, and they have taken steps to address those issues. But they have not taken drastic measures out of fear of hurting the quality of the game.

UNLV sophomore quarterback Armani Rogers is out for about six weeks because of a torn plantar plate in his big toe, coach Tony Sanchez said Monday. Sophomore Max Gilliam will start Saturday against New Mexico at Sam Boyd Stadium.
