Wiggins, Bennett don’t dress for Cavs’ final game
When the Cleveland Cavaliers took the court for their final NBA Summer League game Friday against the Miami Heat at the Thomas & Mack Center, the team’s top draft pick from each of the past two seasons was missing.
Andrew Wiggins, this year’s No. 1 overall pick, and former UNLV star Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 overall selection in 2013, did not dress for the game. It heightened speculation that one or both are going to be part of a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves that would send star forward Kevin Love to Cleveland.
Wiggins and Bennett had played in each of Cleveland’s previous four games. But a team spokesman told the Akron Beacon Journal that the plan was to sit the two if the team fell into the consolation round.
Wiggins started each game and averaged a team-high 15.5 points in 31 minutes a game. Bennett also started each game and averaged 13.3 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds in 32 minutes a game.
