UNLV roundup: Unbeaten volleyball team wins twice in home tournament

Bree Hammel totaled 30 kills to help unbeaten UNLV to two volleyball victories Friday in the Rebel Challenge at Cox Pavilion.
Alexis Patterson totaled 81 assists and posted six blocks in the second match as the Rebels (5-0) downed Sacramento State 3-1 and Hofstra 3-0.
Elsa Descamps had 10 kills and nine blocks in the 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-19 victory over the Hornets (3-1).
Carly Riehl had eight of her 22 digs in the 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 win over the Pride (4-2).
* WOMEN’S SOCCER: At Orem, Utah, Kalli Suesue and Abby Jameson scored first-half goals to lift Utah Valley (4-1) to a 2-1 victory over the Rebels (4-1). Lily Sender scored in the 77th minute for UNLV, which had a 12-10 edge in shots.
* MEN’S SOCCER: At Johann Memorial Field, Alex Heilmann scored three goals to power Cal State Fullerton (1-2) to a 3-1 win over the Rebels (1-2). Wade Scibilia scored for UNLV in the 58th minute.
* CROSS COUNTRY: At Flagstaff, Ariz., the Rebels open their season Saturday in the 14-team George Kyte Classic.
