Rankings website favors UNLV in five of remaining eight games
TeamRankings.com, which uses a computer-based model, projects success for UNLV’s football team the remainder of the season.
The website lists the Rebels (1-3) as at least 59.4 percent favorites in five of their eight remaining games, which if the season plays out that way would make them 6-6 and bowl eligible. But the site also lists UNLV’s chances of making a bowl at 40.9 percent and projects a 5-7 record.
Either type of season would go far beyond the many preseason predictions. UNLV was picked by the Mountain West media to finish last in the West Division.
For those wondering about the site’s accuracy, it projected a 3-10 record two games into last season. UNLV finished 2-11.
The Rebels open Mountain West play at 4 p.m. Saturday at UNR (2-2). TeamRankings.com makes the Wolf Pack the favorites in the West Division, with UNLV second.
Here’s how the site lists UNLV’s chances the rest of the season:
Saturday, at UNR — 40.9 percent
Oct. 10, vs. San Jose State — 59.4 percent
Oct. 16, at Fresno State — 61.1 percent
Oct. 31, vs. Boise State — 10.1 percent
Nov. 7, vs. Hawaii — 62.1 percent
Nov. 14, at Colorado State — 28.4 percent
Nov. 21, San Diego State — 63.5 percent
Nov. 28, at Wyoming — 87.8 percent
