Cold-shooting Lady Rebels fall short vs. Rams
The UNLV women’s basketball team lost to Colorado State 60-44 on Wednesday night in a Mountain West game at Fort Collins, Colo.
The Rams opened the game on a 14-0 run as the Lady Rebels took nearly eight minutes to score their first basket, on a Rejane Verin layup, and UNLV couldn’t climb all the way back in.
UNLV narrowed the lead to five at 34-29 with 13:25 left in the second half, but Colorado State (9-15, 5-6 MW) followed with a 7-0 surge and steadily rebuilt the lead to double digits.
Verin led the Lady Rebels (10-16, 6-6) with 14 points and 13 rebounds, Kelli Thompson had 10 points, and Amanda Anderson had nine points and eight rebounds.
UNLV shot just 21.1 percent from the field (15-for-71), including 2-for-23 from 3-point range (8.7 percent). Colorado State shot 40 percent overall and hit 7 of 23 3-pointers (30.4) percent.
