VanMeetren, Myers lift Rebels to baseball victory at UNR
A.J. VanMeetren had three hits and three RBIs to back D.J. Myers’ strong eight-inning pitching performance and lead UNLV to a 7-1 win over UNR in a Mountain West baseball game Thursday in Reno.
Myers (6-3), a junior right-hander, held the Wolf Pack (31-22, 18-10) to one run on eight hits and one walk and struck out one, throwing 68 of his 98 pitches for strikes, as the Rebels (24-28, 14-14) halted UNR’s three-game win streak.
VanMeetren opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the second inning and then hit a two-run single in the seventh as UNLV won its second straight.
Cooper Esmay went 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the fifth, and Payton Squier’s two hits included an RBI single in the sixth for the Rebels, who held a 12-6 edge in hits.
T.J. Friedl went 2-for-4 and scored on Trenton Brook’s two-out double in the fourth for the Wolf Pack, who had won 13 of their past 14 and swept three games at UNLV in late March.
