UNLV’s Wharton fails to advance in long jump at NCAA championships
UNLV’s Krystal Wharton failed to advance to the finals of the women’s long jump at Wednesday’s NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The junior, who competed in the second flight of 12, earned a legal jump on her second attempt, going 17 feet, 9½ inches. However, fouls on her first and third tries kept her from bettering her mark.
The top nine jumpers in the field of 24 advanced to the finals. Wharton had the shortest jump of the 24, nearly two feet behind the next best competitor, Kentucky’s Kenyattia Hackworth, who jumped 19-7.
