UNLV women’s soccer claims five spots on All-MWC squads

The UNLV women’s soccer team had a school-record five players earn All-Mountain West Conference honors Tuesday, including a school-record four players on the first team.

Defender Caitlin Allen, forward Jenn Wolfe, and midfielder Courtney Botelho and Macy Jo Harrison were first-team selections. Allen anchored a defense that posted nine shutouts in the regular season, Wolfe had 11 goals and 24 points, Botelho led a midfield attack that helped the Rebels go 11-3-4, and Harrison had a school-record eight assists.

Goalkeeper Kylie Wassell was a second-team choice after posting a conference-leading nine shutouts and a 0.84 goals-against average.

The fourth-seeded Rebels face No. 5 seed Fresno State today to open the MWC tournament in San Diego.

■ WOMEN’S GOLF – UNLV wrapped up its fall schedule with a 10th-place finish in the 15-team Longhorn Invitational at Austin, Texas. The Rebels shot 14-over 302 in the third round for a 34-over 898 total.

Demi Mak shot 1-over 73 for a 3-over 219 total, tying for 15th to lead the Rebels, with Dana Finkelstein one shot back in a tie for 19th.

Florida and Alabama tied for first at 8-under 863, but the Gators won the tiebreaker based on the score of their fifth player. Florida’s Camilla Hedberg took the individual title, tying Alabama’s Jennifer Kirby at 8-under 208, then winning a one-hole playoff.
