UNLV men, women sweep Utah in dual swim meet
The UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams beat Utah on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
The 21st-ranked men rolled past the Utes 168-125, while the women posted a 159-136 victory.
Johan Claar posted three of the 12 wins for the men’s team, taking the 200- and 500-yard freestyle and the 200 butterfly. Other winners included Maitlaind Kier (1,000 freestyle), Tamas Bosnyak (100 breaststroke), Richard Hortness (50 freestyle), Nicholas Blank (200 backstroke), Devin Phillips (200 breaststroke), Peter Lorring (100 butterfly), Matt Arb (1-meter diving) and Vincent English (3-meter diving).
UNLV also won the 200 medley relay.
The women’s team got two wins apiece from Bailey Kuestermeyer (1,000 freestyle, 200 butterfly), Marva Harpak (200, 500 freestyle) and Kim Bonney (100, 200 breaststroke). Other winners included Amanda Weinbrecht (100 backstroke), Marina Sandback (100 freestyle) and Lisa Gillespie (200 backstroke).
The Rebels also won the 400 freestyle relay.
• CROSS COUNTRY — At Eugene, Ore., UNLV was 26th in the 31-team NCAA West Regional, finishing with 752 points.
Charlotte Browning cracked the top 50 in the field of 212, finishing 49th in 21 minutes, 38.20 seconds on the 6-kilometer course.
• SOFTBALL — UNLV beat Palomar College 13-0 and the College of Southern Nevada 9-4 in its Fall Round Robin 3 at Eller Media Stadium.
Laura Briones’ two-run single provided all the runs the Rebels needed against Palomar.
Against CSN, the Rebels had to rally after falling behind 4-0. Caitlyn Paus had a two-run double in the second inning, UNLV added two runs in the fifth and a Paus sacrifice fly put the Rebels up 5-4 in the sixth.
