UNLV 3B Kyle Isbel earns weekly Mountain West honor
UNLV third baseman Kyle Isbel was named the Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week on Monday after going 10-for-20 (.500) this weekend during a series against New Mexico.
Isbel was 3-for-5 in Friday’s victory, added two more hits on Saturday and then had his best day Sunday, driving in five runs and scoring three. He struck out in his first at-bat of Sunday’s game, but wasn’t retired after that, going 4-for-5 in the Rebels’ 10-4 victory.
He also had a hit in the team’s 3-1 midweek win against UC Irvine.
Isbel, a freshman from Fontana, California, is hitting .326 in 47 games played and is second on the team with 23 RBIs.
This is the first time this season a Rebel has received the weekly accolade. Earlier in the year, teammate D.J. Myers was the conference’s pitcher of the week.
