Rebels women’s soccer nets 2OT win against FAU
The UNLV women’s soccer team went to double overtime for the second straight game, and again came out with a victory, beating Florida Atlantic 2-1 on Sunday at Johann Memorial Field.
Jenn Wolfe scored the game-winning goal off a Susie Bernal cross two minutes into the second extra period, giving the Rebels a sweep of their two games in the UNLV Rebel Classic.
The two teams were tied 1-all at halftime, with the Owls scoring in the fifth minute and UNLV (3-2-1) responding with Caitlin Allen’s header off a long Macy Jo Harrison free kick in the 36th minute.
Kylie Wassel had six saves for UNLV.
■ MEN’S SOCCER – At Fullerton, Calif., the Rebels let a 1-0 lead slip away in the 87th minute, then lost to Cal State Fullerton 2-1 in double overtime.
The Titans won on Jonathan Birt’s header in the 105th minute, after tying the game on Jesse Escalante’s goal with under four minutes left in regulation.
Joaquin Rivas put the Rebels (0-3-1) up 1-0 in the 20th minute off an assist from Robert Garcia, but UNLV couldn’t get any more shots past Fullerton goalie Adam Zepeda, who had five saves.
