Rebels rally late in baseball triumph over San Jose State

Austin Anderson’s RBI double in the 11th inning sent UNLV to a 3-2 victory over San Jose State in a Mountain West baseball game Sunday in San Jose, California.

Corey Pool hit a one-out single in the 11th, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Anderson’s hit to give the Rebels (19-24, 10-11) two wins over the Spartans (14-29, 6-18) in the weekend series.

Ben Wright (2-2) pitched the final 4 2/3 innings for UNLV, shutting out San Jose State on two hits and one walk and striking out two.

The Rebels trailed 2-1 in the ninth when Pool drew a one-out walk, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Cooper Esmay to force extra innings.

UNLV starter Dean Kremer went 6 1/3 innings, giving up two runs – one earned – on five hits and two walks and striking out two.

Josh Nashed was equally effective on the mound, limiting the Rebels to one unearned run on six hits and two walks and striking out three in seven innings.

Payton Squier went 3-for-4 and Andrew Yazdanbakhsh 2-for-5 for the Rebels, who held a 10-7 edge in hits.

Nashed had a double and a single, and Joe Stefanki went 2-for-5 for the Spartans.
