Justin Jones’ two-run single gives UNLV 5-3 win over No. 23 Nebraska

Justin Jones’ two-run single in the eighth inning sent the UNLV baseball team to a 5-3 win over No. 23 Nebraska on Saturday at Wilson Stadium.

Freshman Peyton Squier went 3-for-4 to pace the Rebels’ 12-hit attack. Joey Armstrong went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Joey Lauria (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Kenny Oakley, giving up one run on one hit and no walks and striking out three in three innings. Oakley gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out six.

The Cornhuskers (1-1) went up 3-2 in the seventh on Christian Cox’s solo home run. UNLV (1-1) tied the score in the bottom of the inning on Erik VanMeetren’s sacrifice fly.
