Gretzky’s daughter causes commotion with racy magazine cover
Paulina Gretzky has made the cover of the upcoming Golf Digest magazine, and a lot of players on the LPGA Tour are upset about it.
Other golfers, such as the ones who play a quick nine holes after work and drink beer on the tee boxes at the local muni, probably won’t mind as much.
Ms. Gretzky is shown in a skimpy outfit — some sort of tight and stretchy yoga gear, it would appear. This is an outfit that most of the touring pros would never wear at the Kraft Nabisco Open, though back in her day, I’ll bet Jan Stephenson might have tried it.
Paulina Gretzky is the niece of Brent Gretzky, who played for the old Las Vegas Thunder of the International Hockey League.
Her dad and mom — Wayne Gretzky and the former actress Janet Jones — are a bit more famous.
The reason Paulina Gretzky probably made the Golf Digest cover is she is engaged to Dustin Johnson, who is ranked No. 3 on the PGA Tour. And that she looks pretty good in tight and stretchy yoga gear.
Stacy Lewis, the world’s third-ranked player, told reporters that she and the other touring pros were frustrated by Golf Digest’s decision to put Gretzky on the cover for whatever reason.
“It’s the state of where we’ve always been,” Lewis said in a USA Today story. “We don’t get the respect for being the golfers we are.
“Obviously, Golf Digest is trying to sell magazines, but at the same time you like to see a little respect for the women’s game.”
Inbee Park, the former Bishop Gorman star and current world’s top-ranked female golfer, unintentionally may have put things in perspective when somebody showed her the Golf Digest cover, prompting the following two-word response:
“Who’s that?”
