Las Vegas BMX star finishes seventh in Olympic final

A crash in his first moto of the day and a bad start in the final proved too much for Connor Fields to overcome.

The 19-year old from Las Vegas and Green Valley High alum finished seventh in the men’s final of BMX at the London Olympics today.

Fields bounced back from the early spill to win his next two semifinal motos and secure a favorable No. 1 lane in the final.

But he fell back before the first turn and couldn’t recover.

“I just got trapped behind guys and there was nothing I could do,” Fields said. “I didn’t expect that. I had every intention of bringing home a medal, but I have to take it on the chin. No excuses. I’m so proud and thankful to have come this far and be able to represent my country. I’m 19 and made the finals. I’m so thankful.”

Read about Fields’ journey to the Olympics in the Review-Journal on Saturday.
