Rousey tabbed to endorse fast-food breakfast sandwich

Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants have gained national acclaim for featuring some of the most beautiful women in the world in sultry commercials to roll out new sandwich offerings.

Now the company is turning to a woman with a different sort of talent.

After teasing an endorsement deal with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey several weeks ago on social media, the restaurant chain announced the undefeated fighter would be used in a marketing campaign designed to unveil the new Cinnamon Swirl French Toast Breakfast Sandwich.

According to Business Wire, a commercial featuring Rousey and the new product will begin airing on Aug. 31. The ad, created by Los Angeles-, New York- and Amsterdam-based agency 72andSunny, is called “Winning Combination.”

“American breakfasts have often included a combination of sweet and savory items and we’ve been looking for that perfect balance – which also just tastes great – for a few years now,” said Brad Haley, chief marketing officer for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants. “The new Cinnamon Swirl French Toast Breakfast Sandwich nailed it. The cinnamon swirl French toast would be great to eat by itself but, combined with eggs, your choice of breakfast meat, cheese and maple syrup sauce, it makes for the kind of memorable morning meal that we always try to create for our Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s customers.”

Haley said Rousey is the perfect athlete to endorse the sandwich, which is now available.

“Ronda Rousey is impressive in so many ways and we’re huge fans,” he said. “While she’s best known for her ultimate fighting ability, she also has a sweet side, which made her the perfect choice to star in the new Cinnamon Swirl French Toast Breakfast Sandwich ad.

“They both pack a mean one-two punch.”

The sandwich is available for $2.99, or as part of a combo with hash browns and a drink for $4.69.

Rousey, who typically celebrates victories with a large plate of chicken wings, won’t have very long to enjoy the French toast sandwiches. She will enter training camp later this fall for a Jan. 2 title defense against former professional boxer and undefeated MMA fighter Holly Holm at MGM Grand.
