PBR World Finals to resume at T&M

Six of the top 10 competitors in the Professional Bull Riders would like to forget the opening weekend of the World Finals.

But the top two hope their hot streaks continue when the 16th annual PBR World Finals resume at 6 tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center.

More than half of the top 10 riders failed to complete any of their three eight-second rides last weekend. But leader Kody Lostroh of Longmont, Colo., and J.B. Mauney of Mooresville, N.C., probably would have preferred to keep riding instead of having the event take the last three days off.

“I like to come in, get in a groove and get going,” said Lostroh, who tied for seventh in the second round and was runner-up Sunday to win $18,000. “I just want to get the job done and get out of here.”

Mauney has cut Lostroh’s world championship lead to 429.25 points and leads the Finals standings 269 points to 266.75 over Brazilian Robson Palermo, who won Sunday’s round.

Mauney, 22, won Friday’s first round, placed second Saturday and eighth Sunday. He has made $40,000 in the Finals.

The Finals continue with rounds of 40 riders Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday morning, then conclude with a short go-round of the top 15 Sunday afternoon.
