River Cats score early, often in 12-1 rout of 51s
The Sacramento River Cats hadn’t scored seven runs in a game this season.
Until Tuesday, that is, when they scored seven in an inning against the 51s.
The River Cats (3-10) rocked starter Seth Lugo, chasing him after 2 2/3 innings and nine earned runs, on their way to a 12-1 victory at Raley Field in Sacramento, California.
After scoring a run in each of the first two innings, Sacramento erupted for seven in the third.
Right fielder Ryan Lollis started a one-out rally in the third with a triple. From there, the River Cats scored on singles. They scored on a wild-pitch strikeout. They hit a homer and scored another run on a bases-loaded walk.
Every River Cat, including starting pitcher Chris Stratton, finished with at least a hit, and seven of eight position players finished with multiple hits.
Las Vegas second baseman Dilson Herrera finished 2-for-4 and doubled home the 51s’ run in the fifth inning.
The 51s (5-6) struggled again with runners in scoring position, a common theme on the trip, going 0-for-9.
