Reds manager sorry for profane rant to media, but stands by message
Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price apologized Tuesday for his profanity-laced tirade the day before in which he used the F-word a whopping 77 times in a venemous five-minute, 34-second showdown in which he called out reporters for revealing roster information.
Price said Tuesday he stands by the content of his message but regrets the choice of words — or more appropriately, word. The pregame press conference took place before Monday’s game, and after the Reds lost seven games in a row following their 4-0 start to the 2015 regular season.
“In my pre-game conversation with reporters yesterday, I used wholly inappropriate language to describe the media coverage of our team. While I stand by the content of my message, I am sorry for the choice of words,” Price said via the team Tuesday.
The rant was sparked by Cincinnati Enquirer Reds’ beat writer C. Trent Rosencrans, who disclosed that catcher Devin Mesoraco was not with the team, and thereby unavailable for pinch-hitting duties against the St. Louis Cardinals, a message Price wanted protected for the sake of keeping the information out of the hands of the opponent.
