One of best MLB catches you’ll ever see happened 28 years ago today — VIDEO

Thanks to MLB.com, now we know where Gatorade got the inspiration for its commercial from a couple years ago in which a ballgirl climbs the outfield wall to make an amazing catch.

It turns out White Sox outfielder Ivan Calderon did it in an actual game at Tiger Stadium 28 years ago today to rob Alan Trammell of a home run.

Calderon jumped on a ledge on the left-field wall and reached over the top of the fence to make the incredible catch.

The viral video of the ballgirl scaling the left-field wall to retrieve a foul ball hit by Durango High School and UNLV product Brent Johnson went viral after it was released in 2008 and is still fooling viewers on YouTube who believe it’s actual footage from a Triple-A baseball game. An ad agency filmed the Gatorade ad, but the ad campaign was scrapped before the commercial aired. The video was then leaked online, where it quickly became a sensation, attracting more than six million views.
