Oklahoma City scores four runs in seventh inning to overcome 51s, 6-4
Brian Burgamy’s pinch-hit, two-run double was the big blow in Oklahoma City’s four-run seventh inning that carried the Dodgers to a 6-4 win over the 51s in a game pitting the Pacific Coast League’s top teams Saturday at Cashman Field.
With Oklahoma City (28-13) trailing 4-2 and the bases loaded, Burgamy drilled a full-count pitch from starter Matt Bowman (2-5) to left field to tie the score.
The Dodgers then scored the go-ahead run on Dan Rohlfing’s passed ball and another on Darrell Sweeney’s sacrifice fly.
Brandon Allen’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the second opened the scoring. Oklahoma City tied it in the third when Brian Ward reached on an error, was sacrificed to second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk.
P.J. Walters, the Dodgers’ starting pitcher, put Oklahoma City up 2-1 in the fifth with an RBI single.
Las Vegas (27-16) went ahead with three runs in the fifth on three hits, including RBI singles by Allen and T.J. Rivera.
Walters (2-1) gave up four runs on seven hits and four walks and struck out six in six innings. David Aardsma struck out two in a perfect ninth to get his 13th save.
Bowman (2-5) gave up six runs, four earned, on seven hits and one walk and struck out two in 6 1/3 innings.
Scott Schebler went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double and scored twice for the Dodgers, who matched the 51s’ eight hits.
Rivera, in his first game batting leadoff, went 3-for-4 with a double.
Each team squandered a one-out, bases-loaded scoring opportunity — Las Vegas in the third inning, Oklahoma City in the ninth — by grounding into a double play.
