Mountain West Conference basketball tournaments to remain in Las Vegas
The Mountain West Conference Board of Directors voted today to keep the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments at the Thomas & Mack Center from 2011 to 2013.
Las Vegas’ four-year contract to host the tournament was set to expire in 2010, and there was a push from some MWC schools, including Brigham Young, to move the tournament.
The other sites considered were Albuquerque, N.M., Denver, Salt Lake City and San Diego.
“I’m very pleased the tournament is continuing to be held at the Thomas & Mack,” UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick said. “I’ve always believed this is the venue and it’s the city to showcase one of our top conference events.”
