Fuller to put Phoenix streak on line in NHRA event
Rod Fuller grew up in Arkansas, lives in Las Vegas and loves Phoenix.
He couldn’t be happier today to be racing in the Phoenix area, where the NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series is competing at Firebird International Raceway.
Fuller is the two-time reigning champion of the CSK Nationals at Firebird, and in 2004 he won the Super Gas title at the track. He also was the quickest in Top Fuel testing there last month when his David Powers Motorsports dragster clocked a 4.468-second run at 331.36 mph.
He has won 15 consecutive rounds of eliminations at Firebird.
“To me, Phoenix is the promised land,” he said. “The last three times I’ve raced there we’ve won (titles), so we have a great streak going on.”
Fuller opened the season two weeks ago by qualifying 10th in Pomona, Calif., and advancing to the quarterfinals, where he lost to Larry Dixon.
Professional racing at Firebird begins today and culminates with Sunday’s championship eliminations.
