Late NAC agenda change points to UFC 197 taking place at MGM Grand

A late change to the agenda for Tuesday’s Nevada Athletic Commission meeting appears to indicate the Ultimate Fighting Championship will indeed host a major event at MGM Grand on March 5.

A request by TGB Promotions to hold a boxing event at the arena, which would air on network television according to the agenda, has been withdrawn and will no longer be heard at the meeting. The item was scheduled to be first on the consent agenda when it was posted on the NAC’s website.

According to a source, the UFC put in a request Monday to hold an event on that date at MGM Grand. That will be added to the agenda for the NAC’s February meeting.

Several reports have indicated UFC officials plan to announce UFC 197 will take place March 5 at MGM Grand. The event is expected to be headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Rafael dos Anjos and featherweight champ Conor McGregor, as well as a women’s bantamweight title bout between Miesha Tate and champion Holly Holm.

Despite several published reports confirming the details, the UFC has yet to officially announce the event.

The date request with the NAC would be the best indication yet the event will happen.

The proposed boxing event was reported to be headlined by a welterweight bout between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter on CBS.
