Embattled ex-champ Jon Jones says he’ll be back to the UFC ‘soon’

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is confident his return to the UFC will happen in relatively short order.

Jones, who is facing a suspension of up to two years after failing a drug test administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, posted a video on his Instagram page Sunday to update on his fans on the situation.

“I’ve been doing really good,” he said. “(I’ve) been training, spending time with family, attacking some of these legal issues that I’ve gotten myself into. (I’m) really trying to just leave that all behind once and for all.”

In addition to the potential suspension, Jones agreed to a plea deal last week on several charges stemming from a March traffic stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The more pressing issue for his career is the potential suspension. Jones was pulled from his main event title bout against Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 just days before the event when an out-of-competition test showed the presence of two estrogen blockers in his system.

Jones held a tearful news conference the next day to proclaim his innocence and vowed to investigate until he uncovered the origins of the banned substances, indicating he suspected tainted supplements.

The former champion insists he is making progress toward proving his innocence.

“I’m sure you guys are curious about what’s going on with this USADA situation,” he said. “Obviously I can’t get into it because it’s still pending, but what I can say is that we have found out lots of really good news, and I am expecting to be back in the octagon really soon.”

A representative for USADA, which independently administers the UFC’s anti-doping program, declined comment on the matter. Jones is also facing discipline from the Nevada Athletic Commission because the fight was scheduled in the state.

He is under a temporary suspension and is awaiting a full disciplinary hearing from the NAC.
