Couture and Le petition for Ali Act in MMA — VIDEO
Randy Couture, a UFC Hall of Famer and former two-division UFC champion, and Cung Le, a former kickboxer and MMA fighter who competed under the Strikeforce and UFC banners, spoke at the Association of Boxing Commissions conference to garner more support to bring the Muhammad Ali Expansion Act to MMA.
Like the Ali Act in boxing, in part, the expansion act would ideally allow fighters to negotiate how much they make and not keep them bound to lengthy contracts.
The bill was introduced in May this year and is sponsored by Oklahoma congressman Markwayne Mullin. Mullin also competed in MMA prior to taking office.
If the legislation were to pass, it would mandate the UFC to share financial information with fighters, an independent rankings system would be put in place, and more.
