Men’s golf shares 10th in regional
The sixth-ranked UNLV men’s golf team is tied for 10th after the first round of the NCAA West Regional on Thursday at Tempe, Ariz.
The Rebels are at 7-under-par 281. UCLA leads at 268, followed by South Carolina at 273 and Arizona State and New Mexico at 275.
Eddie Olson led UNLV with a 4-under 68 and is tied for 12th. CJ Gatto fired a 69, Jarred Texter and Seung-su Han each shot 72, and Brett Kanda had a 78.
UCLA’s Erik Flores fired a 64 for the individual lead, followed by New Mexico’s Charlie Beljan at 65.
The top 10 teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships, May 30 to June 2 in Williamsburg, Va.
• MEN’S TENNIS — Sophomore Elliot Wronski will play in the NCAA singles tournament next week in Athens, Ga.
Wronski, a native of Cheltenham, England, is 19-12 and ranked 60th in the nation, with seven victories over ranked opponents.
The 64-player draw will be Tuesday, and the tournament will start Wednesday.
• SOFTBALL — Sophomore pitcher Christie Robinson was named to the second team of the coaches’ All-West Region team.
Robinson, named the Mountain West Conference pitcher of the year Monday, finished 15-5 with a 2.26 ERA.
