Matz blanks Sky Sox for seven innings in 51s’ 9-1 victory
Steven Matz allowed Colorado Springs just three hits in seven shutout innings as the 51s picked up a 9-1 Pacific Coast League victory over the Sky Sox on Tuesday night at Cashman Field.
Matz (6-2) struck out seven and walked one, lowering his ERA to 1.99.
Las Vegas (29-17) scored five runs in the first, all with two outs. Brandon Allen and Wilfredo Tovar each hit two-run singles, and Matz added an RBI on an infield single. Allen scored three times.
Matz had two hits and drove in two runs.
Brooks Conrad had a two-run double in the eighth.
Shane Peterson drove in Pete Orr in the eighth for the only run for Colorado Springs (16-28)
The 51s have won the first two games of the series, which continues at 7:05 p.m. today.
