Dimwitted O.J. deserves to be punished — finally
To the sports editor:
Ed Graney’s Sept. 19 column on O.J. Simpson (“This tag certainly fits: O.J. is dimwit”) really hit the nail on the head. Simpson deserves to have the book thrown at him.
Simpson is a dimwit … among other things I can’t print. Thank you, Mr. Graney, for giving me assurance that not all Americans are as stupid as that murder trial jury in California was in 1995.

BREEZY POINT, MINN.
To the sports editor:
Review-Journal columnist Ed Graney is correct about California juries. As a native of that state, I’ve seen them issue some stupid verdicts.
I hope Nevada can do what this state should have done the first time, and that is put away that creep.
RAY MCCLOUD
To the sports editor:
Joe Hawk saved his best rant of “Rants & Raves” for last this past week when he wrote about Simpson being in town for a wedding and whether anyone was concerned about him being around the cake knife.
I couldn’t stop laughing.

UNLV football should apologize for lethargy
To the sports editor:
As a Rebels fan, I demand an apology from UNLV coach Mike Sanford, his staff and the players — except for linebacker Beau Bell — for the product they put on the field against Hawaii on Sept. 15 (a 49-14 home loss).
It was a disappointingly flat effort, and the team was poorly prepared.
Hey, Coach Sanford, if I failed at my job as much as you fail at yours, I’d be unemployed!

QB aside, Rebels need to eliminate foul play
To the sports editor:
It is exciting that it appears the UNLV football program is making progress, and with the right quarterback, in my opinion, in Travis Dixon.
However, the coaches must sit those players who are guilty of multiple personal fouls. They indicate the players’ attitude, and that attitude should not be tolerated.

Belichick lauded; Bonds derided — what gives?
To the sports editor:
Tell me if I’m going over the deep end, but I keep hearing people drool over New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick talking about …
“How he did not let the accusations and the distraction that his cheating caused affect him?” …
“Look at him on the sideline. He looks like nothing has changed.” …
Please, someone tell me I’m jumping to conclusions: Barry Bonds has been going through media torture for five years over alleged steroids use and has not been proven guilty. Belichick is guilty, and here you have a celebration of his accomplishments still.

Yakking sportscasters ought to be muzzled
To the sports editor:
At long last, I read about somebody other than myself being tired of the yakking in sports telecasts (Bill Taaffe’s “Remote Control” column, Sept. 18: “Flapping ‘Jaws’ is one mouth too many on ‘MNF’ “).
The announcers over-explain and over-detail what we have just seen via the cameras.
I do use my mute option on the remote, but my thumb is getting tired!
