INTERNET ONLY: Cheyenne soccer team takes over first in Northwest Division
Frank Barnes scored twice to lift Cheyenne to a 2-1 home victory over Centennial on Wednesday in high school soccer, moving the Desert Shields into first place in the Northwest Division.
Barnes scored in the first half on a penalty kick and in the second half on an assist from Daniel Gonzales as Cheyenne moved to 6-0 in league.
Mike Farbridge-Currie scored for the Bulldogs.
At Basic, Daniel Bowman scored midway through the second half as the Wolves beat Silverado, 1-0.
Basic’s Chris Garcia made five saves to get the shutout.
At Legacy, Christian Rodriguez and Justin Hanselman each had a goal and an assist to help the Longhorns beat Shadow Ridge, 4-1.
Ivan Saucedo and Gerardo Acero also scored for Legacy, and Andrew Salazar added an assist. Edwin Rivas scored for the Mustangs.
At Del Sol, Fabian Melchor scored on an assist from Damien Lujan, and the Dragons went on to shut out Tech, 1-0.
Del Sol goalie Evan Fast recorded the shutout.
At Cimarron, Palo Verde’s Shane Panther scored two goals to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 victory over the Spartans.
Griffin Green added a goal for Palo Verde. Corey Ackler scored for Cimarron.
At Arbor View, Carlos Esparza scored two goals to lead the Aggies past Mojave, 7-0.
Niko Johnson, Dakota Karas and Michael Cable each had a goal and an assist. Dillyn McDonald and Andre Winchell also scored. Christian Hellstrom and Forrest Homerding combined on the shutout.
At Foothill, Victor Chavez scored his second goal with four minutes left to lift Green Valley to a 3-2 win.
Aric Bonner also scored for the Gators. Drew Suits and Nemo Morales scored for Foothill.
At Coronado, Max Gunderson scored four goals as the Cougars downed Liberty, 7-1.
Carlos Dominguez, Casey McKenna and Adrian Villarreal also scored for Coronado. Arthur Hakobyan and Bryan Sandoval each had three assists. Axel Casas scored for Liberty.
