Golden Knights defenseman Alec Martinez was back on the ice Tuesday, participating in the morning skate at City National Arena while wearing a red, noncontact jersey.

Martinez will not be in the lineup when the Knights host the Nashville Predators at T-Mobile Arena.

Martinez has been sidelined since Nov. 11 when he was kicked in the face by Minnesota’s Wild left wing Brandon Duhaime and suffered a severe facial laceration that required more than 50 stitches, according to coach Pete DeBoer.

He also sustained a head injury from the blow and has missed the past 21 games while recovering.

“Nice step for any of these guys to be rejoining our group at some type of the practices we’ve had or the optional skates that we’ve had,” DeBoer said. “It’s a positive step, but he’s not back yet.”

In addition, goalie Logan Thompson could make his first career NHL start against the Predators, though DeBoer would not confirm who will be in the crease Tuesday.

Goalie Laurent Brossoit was not on the ice for morning skate, and Thompson was joined by Robin Lehner and minor leaguer Dylan Ferguson. Lehner was listed as doubtful by DeBoer on Monday, and if Brossoit is unavailable, Thompson is next in line.
