HORSE RACING
OAK TREE AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Sindy Jacobson – Mitchell got away with one as this is not a $40k filly; she’s protected today and likely to keep improving.
Proud Garrison – Off the board only once in 6-starts, she is ultra consistent; tactical speed to sit a good trip for Jara.
Long Shot – Sunset Tijuana
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Witness Protection – Been away 6-months, but showed ability at Keeneland; expect this guy to make his way on to the grass.
Larrys Revenge – By hot sire Vindication, he is bred to be quick and win early; not sure how far he wants to go in the future.
Long Shot – Zetterberg
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $60,000 Blue Jay Way, 3-year-olds and up
Siren Lure – This is meant to be a confidence builder as he hasn’t won in 13-months; loves the hillside turf course too.
Night Chapter – Last seen in a sharp win down the hill in February; Blanc fits many Frankel horses as he’s very patient.
Long Shot – Leonetti
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Areutrue – Ran too bad to be true last time and is taken to atone; his race two back is fast enough to upset this group.
Rudemeanie – Tepid chalk had a perfect trip in last, but faltered inside the final furlong; big rider switch to Nakatani.
Long Shot – Lendell
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Champagne Miss – Ran too good to lose in career debut in a stakes; if she can repeat the race, she’ll win from here to there.
Cantina’s Rose – She was her own worst enemy in debut, as green as grass; there is no doubt she can run, hopefully straight.
Long Shot – Flying Home
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $36,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Fandabidoo – Moves from inside to outside which is a real positive down the hillside turf course; will be closing fast late.
Gregorian Bay – Ran much better in his second turf start than his first in the Pasadena; suspect will continue to improve.
Long Shot – Kona Wind
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Twelve Twenty Two – Solid debut effort, now adding Lasix for the money shot; exiting a well regarded bullet workout.
Crown of Diamonds – FTS from the Harty barn has been working well for her long awaited debut; she is bred to be any kind.
Long Shot – Exquisite Timing
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $47,000, Optional claiming $32,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Valiant Effort – Would have finished in the money had he not run thru the temporary white rail; his back races are good.
Designer Breed – Gets class relief exiting a couple NoCal turf stakes for this; his one main track win was a real corker.
Long Shot – Island Launch
Race 9 – 1 1/16th miles, $250,000 Norfolk, 2-year-olds
Dixie Chatter – Ran well in the Del Mar Futurity racing wide throughout from post 13; will improve if he can save ground.
Salute the Sarge – He will test the limits of his pedigree to get a distance of ground; he’s a fighter, no doubt about it.
Long Shot – Beresford
Race 10 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Boy Howdy – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; exits a bullet workout and a positive rider switch.
First Opportunity – Logical chalk did everything but win last time out; suspect will lead the parade once again.
Long Shot – Absolute Courage
Best Bet – Champagne Miss (race 5)
