HORSE RACING
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post time 3:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Engadin – Baffert colt is not related to me, though I wish he was; bred top and bottom to run all day.
Beresford – Another with 2-turn pedigree stretching out for the first time; saves all the ground inside.
Long Shot – Reel Prime
Race 2 – 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $64,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Kapalua Bay – Sensational win in fast time last time; Ellis barn chilly after a hot Hollywood meeting.
Only in Reno – Speedball figures to dictate the early fractions; Baffert is warming after a cold start.
Long Shot – Bills Paid
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Mahalo Lani – Been away 9-months but showed some talent last fall; working strongly for her return.
Adarlyn Cat – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; need not be much in here.
Long Shot – Downtown Lover
Race 4 – 1 mile, $100,000 El Cajon (1st division), 3-year-olds
I’m All Out – Ran miserably on turf, returns to friendly confines today; upset chance at a monster price.

Long Shot – Rush With Thunder
Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Sindy Jacobson – Works don’t say much; but sire More Than Ready is an exceptional juvenile stallion.
In Daddy’s Honor – Tepid chalk in a race full of FTS; you have an edge of watching the tote board action.
Long Shot – Foggy Haze
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Bright Moon – Cassidy filly is overdue to run a big race in the U.S.; she was left with too much to do in last.
Honored Gold – Tepid chalk in another wide open race on the card; Mitchell has many interesting prospects.
Long Shot – Lavender Sky
Race 7 – 1 mile, $100,000 El Cajon (2nd division), 3-year-olds
Try to Fly – Given some time since two tough stakes tests; a mile distance should be right up his alley.

Long Shot – Latin Rhythms
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $34,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Long Shot – Catch That Thief
Best Bet – I’m All Out (race 4)
