HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Luis’s Especial – Logical chalk has run too good to lose in his last two starts; figures to be part of a mad scramble late.
Sunshine Ridge – Never had a shot in last when Black Seventeen crushed the field; his race two back puts him right there.
Long Shot – Pay the Vig
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Classy Clarita – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; should be dead fit exiting turf routes.
Proud of My Curls – Logical chalk should be seen as regressing today, not progressing; could burn up at very short odds.
Long Shot – Capture the Cat
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Categorize – Ran a big race last time in a losing effort, sandwiched by good talent; similar effort today can beat these.
Rapid Transaction – Got a solid test drive in last, now is ready to move forward on Cushion track; settles to make one run.
Long Shot – Candy Jo
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Kleven’s Verbatim – Bounced in last off a sharp winning race two back; cheap horses yo-yo up and down, expect better today.
Luptia’sluckyangel – Ice cold O’Neill barn must be suffering from KY Derby blues; things figure to turn around, and fast.
Long Shot – The Case Queen
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Alpine Jewel – Exploded with a monster effort in last over the Cushion track; some horses really take to the carpet fibers.
Crazyex – FTS from Gallagher should be a square price because he doesn’t push his babies; she has win early pedigree though.
Long Shot – Peace by Peace
Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
Courtnall – He has never won on dirt, but remember this is Cushion track meaning it’s closer to turf; expect a big turnaround.
Mi Rey – Tepid chalk is stretching out off a sharp effort down the hillside turf course; should be forwardly placed throughout.
Long Shot – Blue Steller
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $80,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Delicate Cat – Ellis already dropping this filly into a claimer after MSW debut; she didn’t run bad and figures to move forward.
Robot Woman – She didn’t get claimed in debut, now Mitchell aggressively moves her up in class; she too can improve second time out.
Long Shot – Incredible
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Railbird, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Silver Swallow – Dead late closer should see an optimum race scenario to do her best; Solis loves to settle and make one run.
Coco Belle – In a very rapid pace, I think she can be the speed of the speed; whether she can stay is the $64,000 question.
Long Shot – Forest Huntress
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Sportie’s Squeeze – Ran well but ran out of room in last in an abbreviated sprint; should enjoy the longer trip this afternoon.
Flight Clearance – Regressed in last after a decent debut effort; Potts stays loyal and this guy figures to rebound nicely.
Long Shot – Unusual Jane
Best Bet – Kleven’s Verbatim (race 4)
Hollywood Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$34.80; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals – 249/58/$399.00; Long Shots, 125/13/$165.20; Best Bets, 15/5/$20.60
