HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Appealing Sweets – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; showed some talent in last year’s races.
Just Like Her – She is turning back in distance from 2-turn routes for this elongated sprint; should be strong late.
Long Shot – Justice Is Brief
Race 2 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Wild Sissy – In a racing lacking speed, she may get lonesome on the front end; Gryder and Koriner have done well together.
Getnhotnhere – Her better races have been as a closing sprinter, like in a spot like this; Nakatani is looking hungry.
Long Shot – In My Life
Race 3 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Steelin’ – Did not handle the turf well at all in last; switches to Cushion track, which is more like dirt, will improve.
Forest Miss – Another taking the biggest class drop from MSW to claiming; like the turn back in distance from a 2-turn route.
Long Shot – A Fleet Pace
Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Stays in Vegas – Did a pop and stop facing better last time out; like the move from parking lot post 10 to the rail today.
San Lameer – Was well bet in debut and nearly pulled it off in career debut; many Sadler babies improve with more racing.
Long Shot – Hunsley Bunsley
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Charmin Dot – Holds a slight, but convincing edge over this group; Blanc has put her into her races with better success.
Red Opal – She is a consistent sort who puts in a good effort most every time out; she faced a few of these in recent starts.
Long Shot – More Angels
Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Parthenon Charm – Ellis broke his maiden for $50k claiming, now drops him in for $25k; suspect he’s taking a calculated risk.
I Beat the Fire – Suspect this horse will be double his real odds because of 10-pound bugboy Foley; has a chance to surprise.
Long Shot – Breakfastatbully’s
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Zann – Returns from a 5-month sabbatical; was showing good ability at the end of last year, should handle the Cushion track.
Storm Mate – Got up in the final stride last time; dead late closer may not see much pace in what could be a jockey’s race.
Long Shot – Captain Kurt
Race 8 – 5 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Redcon – FTS has win early pedigree, draws the rail and figures to be a huge price; leap of faith she’s ready to fly.
Unlimited Gold – The best looking filly among those with experience; problem is she’s unappetizing at extremely low odds.
Long Shot – Malia Sofia
Best Bet – Steelin’ (race 3)
Hollywood Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$20.80; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
Hollywood Totals – 550/130/$831.40; Long Shots, 268/36/$392.60; Best Bets, 32/14/$55.40
