HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

My Maloof Rocker – The only filly in the race with experience, and that can be very helpful; Kitchingman has an uncoupled entry, beware.

Siena Gold – This is the favored filly of the Kitchingman duo; she has impressed the clockers and figures to be bet fairly heavily.

Long Shot – Thankfully

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

Our Papa Joe – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; main impediment is a parking lot post, must break sharp.

Ticket Broker – FTS from Sherman, figures to be quick off the draw; Sherman has an uncoupled entry in here with Comic Hero.

Long Shot – Grits

Race 3 – 7 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Pieces of Paradise – Logical chalk is sliding down the claiming ladder where she will win one of these; tactical speed to sit a trip.

Wins the Prize – Taking the big class drop from MSW to claiming for Vienna; Vienna wins in bunches and he got two home on Gold Rush day.

Long Shot – Writ

Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up

Reel ‘Em In – Mullins is off to a horrendous start, just when I figured he was ready to heat up; this guy is being dropped down to win.

PT’s Grey Eagle – Claimed by Glatt, this guy has back class and a lot of natural speed; possible bounce back try at a square price.

Long Shot – Coronado’s Way

Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $55,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Keladora – Frankel got off a short schneid on Wednesday, has the filly to beat in here; note how 5-of-6 runners are European imports.

Arm Candy – Good test drive in her U.S. debut; exits a pretty strong race chasing Cantabria and Categorize, expect improvement.

Long Shot – Veyana

Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Rapid Romance – Beaten favorite figures to be a much higher odds today; she’s run only on turf, but this is her Cushion track debut.

La Serenata – Just missed last time in a game effort; while she graduated on soil, her better race was on grass, the one to beat.

Long Shot – Madera Royal

Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds

Albertus Maximus – I don’t typically pick MSW facing winners the first time; this colt beat a good one in Pavorotti, has a high ceiling.

Vauquelin – Tepid chalk should be dead fit off a pair of turf miles; the transition from grass to Cushion track works pretty well.

Long Shot – Augment

Race 8 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Hi Beautiful – Making her turf debut, she has natural speed to be forwardly placed; she may try to take these wire to wire.

Pink Polkadots – Tepid chalk is a dead late closer who has come too little, too late so far; turns back in distance for today.

Long Shot – Divina

Best Bet – Our Papa Joe (race 2)

Hollywood Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$14.20; Long Shots, 7/1/$17.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$6.40

Hollywood Totals – 117/28/$190.60; Long Shots, 56/4/$101.00; Best Bets, 7/2/$10.00
