TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Southside Johnny B – Tiny edge in a difficult race that should be part of the pick 6; NoCal shipper has won 4-of-8 in 2007.
Mysterious Cat – Mullins got nothing last time off the claim; however, tonight is different as the whole barn is on a roll.
Long Shot – Sendero
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Mashina – Another race that should be part of the pick 6, an impossible result; tepid chalk has some tactical speed to use.
Silber – Leap of faith that Nakatani knows what he’s doing staying loyal to Abrams; on her best, she sits a trip and rallies.
Long Shot – Best Tribute
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, $75,000 Valkry, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Getback Time – Short field is a lot stronger than it seems; Becerra filly has won three straight and in open company too.
Vaca City Flyer – NoCal shipper is from the highly regarded Sherman barn; she is ultra quick but has closed in recent races.
Long Shot – Lady Gamer
Race 4 – 5 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
B R’s Girl – Was well bet in debut, in a stakes race no less; she ran evenly, but is smartly spotted to regain her confidence.
Under Serviced – FTS from Baffert cost $325K and is working very fast, what a shock; watch the tote board hum on her.
Long Shot – Princess Susan M
Race 5 – 7 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Dixie Crisp – Did a pop and stop in stakes last time after a sensational debut race; suspect she does not need the lead to win.
Unusual Beauty – This gal is a real speedball and draws the rail where her fate is sealed; figures to be another short price.
Long Shot – Com Easy
Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Chancellor – The type of race that could yield a monster mutuel price; Mandella colt stretching out for the first time.
Ascari – Canani adding blinkers on, which could lead to a major wake-up call; rail post is good to save all the ground.
Long Shot – Lemon
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Dee’s a Legend – Her race two back is fast enough to upset these; like that Mitchell switches to main man Baze for this.
La Chola – Claimed by Ellis, no barn is hotter this meet than his; he put four works into her, may be ready for a turnaround.
Long Shot – Run for Dessert
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Imagine – Tiny edge in another difficult heat; there is not much speed so it could come down to who gets the best late trip.
Film Editor – Could be a nice day for Sherman if all the pieces come together for him; Chavez will give her every chance.
Long Shot – Charming Legacy
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Mike’s Trippin – It’s that man Sherman again with another live animal; like that he hires bugboy Talamo for the money shot.
Scotty Jones – Showed some early lick last time, first start ever for a claiming price; figures to improve off that effort.
Long Shot – Warren’s Secret
Best Bet – Getback Time (race 3)
Hollywood Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/9/$43.80; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$6.60
