Walker’s TD leads No. 8 Legacy past No. 2 Arbow View on road

DeMichael Walker scored on a 1-yard run late in the third quarter, and Legacy forced two turnovers to upset host Arbor View 7-0 on Thursday night.

“On the way here, there was a different feel,” Longhorns coach Dave Snyder said. “The kids stepped up and played well defensively. … That’s a good football team, so to shut them out is an accomplishment.”

Casey Hughes rushed for a game-high 106 yards to lead No. 8 Legacy (3-1).

The second-ranked Aggies (2-1) fumbled twice and also turned over the ball on downs twice in Legacy territory after long second-half drives. Arbor View marched to the Longhorns’ 13-yard line with a chance to tie the game, but Andrew Cornwell fumbled the snap on fourth-and-4 with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter.

The Aggies had one final chance, taking over at their own 18 with 1:27 to play, but Cornwell was sacked three times, twice by Zach Lurgis, to end the game.

Legacy grabbed the lead with 1:36 to play in the third as Walker forced his way into the end zone to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive. Walker’s score came one play after Devin Williams threw a 24-yard completion to Jermaine Allen.

The Aggies put together a 13-play drive that lasted almost 10 minutes in the first quarter, but a key holding penalty stalled the drive. Arbor View’s next two drives ended with fumbles.

“Any time you can create turnovers with a ball-control offense, it’s big,” Snyder said.

Arbor View also opened the third quarter with a 13-play drive that yielded no points as another holding penalty proved costly.

Arbor View committed five penalties for 44 yards. Anthony Smith led the Aggies with 73 yards rushing.
