Pacquiao won’t box Horn in a rematch of their WBO world welterweight title fight this year because the Filipino senator will be busy with government duties. Las Vegas was able to squeeze in Manny Pacquiao after all.
After MGM officials told Top Rank promoter Bob Arum no venues were available in April, Pacquiao’s return bout appeared headed to New York’s Madison Square Garden.
But Pacquiao’s favorite Las Vegas venue recently became available. Top Rank’s April 14 boxing card will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, Bob Bennett, the Nevada Athletic Commission executive director, confirmed.
Arum declined to confirm the venue switch because the card hasn’t been officially announced. He’s working to finalize a bout between Pacquiao and Mike Alvarado, best known for his trilogy against Brandon Rios.
What’s for sure is that Terence Crawford will make his welterweight debut against WBO champion Jeff Horn on the co-feature in April.
