Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $48,000, Allowance, 2-year-olds
7 Stoney Fleece – Class relief from a stakes for this; key is he’s trying turf for the first time, an unknown variable.
4 Tiz Point – Like that he won and ran a much slower Beyer; shows me there is room for improvement today.
Long Shot – 6 Nicos Memory
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Miss Ambition – Peter Miller has an uncoupled entry and both are live; big class drop can only help.
1 Purple Starduster – Other horse for Miller is being ridden by Joel Rosario; he has been riding great so far this meet.
Long Shot – 4 Jimini Christmas
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 California Heat – Winless in 8 turf tries, but is faster than most of these; Joel Rosario rides her for the first time.
7 Swiss Charm – Rafael Bejarano exits the favorite to ride for Eoin Harty; both grass races were good for this level.
Long Shot – 3 Vonn Nez
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $18,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Depth – Beaten favorite had trouble at a key part of the race in last; clean trip will make him double tough.
4 Cheers to Boogie – Difficult and wide trip from post 13 in last; moving inside can only help save some ground.
Long Shot – 7 Salty Robbin
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $48,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Quiet Oasis – Been away 8 months showing ability last winter; her sole race down the hill in the La Habra was good.
7 My Untamed Heart – Suspect she has more early speed than showed in last two outings; will be forwardly placed.
Long Shot – 3 Real Housewife
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
1 Jim’s No Preacher – Speed and the rail work in Arcadia on the main dirt track; no sense being coy from the wood.
2 Gutshot Straight – Has the tactical speed to sit off the rail speedball; both organic dirt races were good ones.
Long Shot – 4 Golden Bounty
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
10 Cardiff Giant – He is better on grass and synthetics; his one hillside try last winter was a solid effort.
4 Crossing the Line – Long time no see for this 9-YO veteran; he adores turf and handles the hillside very well indeed.
Long Shot – 12 Sky’squickscore
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Lord Avalon – Like the parking lot post in this elongated sprint; Mike Chambers charge and stalk and pounce late.
5 Jaylo Marino – Claimed by John Martin, one shrewd claiming trainer; dirt resume doesn’t say much, but should improve.
Long Shot – 7 Capture the Call
Race 9 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), $150,000 Oak Tree Derby, 3-year-olds
3 Venomous – This Euro was good enough to try a group 1 at Chantilly; suspect he won’t face that kind tonight.
1 Great Warrior – A. C. Avila colt has been consistently good and flies under the radar; good trip from the rail too.
Long Shot – 11 Cozy’s Kitten
Race 10 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
9 Duality – Taking the biggest class drop in racing, this one from a stakes to maiden claiming; for forgiving handicappers.
5 Fire Wise – Tepid chalk is taking a huge class drop from $80K to $30K; Tim Yakteen is taking the blinkers off too.
Long Shot – 3 Peppy Bolly
Best Bet – 3 Venomous (race 9)
Santa Anita Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/5/$31.00; Long Shots, 8/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.00
Santa Anita Totals – 169/50/$316.00; Long Shots, 88/13/$123.60; Best Bets, 10/6/$31.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – 4 Norm’s Passion (3/1) in race 8 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Supreme ran second at Keeneland paying $7.80 to place and $4.80 to show. Stats – 159/104/$815.60; follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
