Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 9

Post Time 3 p.m.

Race 1 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

3 Sky Preacher – FTS from the Doug O’Neill barn; like that he hires Rafael Bejarano to ride in career debut.

6 No Maybe Baby – Another FTS, this from the live baby barn of Adam Kitchingman; watch the tote board for additional clues.

Long Shot – 4 Tiz Jolie

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

6 Frensham – Gets huge class relief exiting two stakes for this MSW; he clearly is the figure horse in this field.

1 Golden Chalice – Ran awful in career debut as the big favorite; blinkers on, Carla Gaines charge deserves a second chance.

Long Shot – 2 Grazenette

Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 Dancer Humor – Ran well for this class level two races ago; has enough tactical speed where he can sit midpack and kick it in late.

2 Dreamalot – Tepid chalk has a 1-for-15 turf resume; has run a lot of good grass races, but has been a nibbler most of the time.

Long Shot – 5 Dr. Spin

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Cowtownmary – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder; he has a lot of natural speed, will switch it over to the main track tonight.

7 Takeit Tothe Limit – FTS from the underrated Mike Pender barn; should get value with Alonso Quinonez riding, he seldom takes action.

Long Shot – 5 Chapo

Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 Eltoninadress – Ran a big race at this bottom level two races ago; has good tactical speed to lead or follow close up early on.

3 Hollanita – If you can draw a line thru the last turf race, you may get a steal here; best races came over the synthetics.

Long Shot – 1 Zees Chris

Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

2 Fit to Rule – Claimed by Kory Owens off a sharp victory; has a lot of back class where a repeat race is very doable.

8 Cook Inlet – Has run well for Rafael Bejarano in the past; Jerry Hollendorfer adding the blinkers on plus Rafael Bejarano.

Long Shot – 1 Twin Six

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Blake’s Magic – Might correspond to Blake Bortles going to the Jaguars; stretching out around 2-turns after a series of sprints.

7 Lakota Road – Like the cut back in distance where she’ll be in arrears early; hoping for a fast early pace to close into.

Long Shot – 10 Hanserella

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

8 She’s Flush – Is 0-for-17 but this is a slowpoke bunch of horses; someone has to inherit the lead turning for home.

2 Nonna Reese – A. C. Avila is using other jockeys other than Omar Berrio now; this one could move forward at a square price.

Long Shot – 5 Veronica Bay

Best Bet – 4 Dancer Humor (race 3)

Santa Anita Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$21.40; Long Shots, 8/2/$29.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Park Totals – 139/35/$231.00; Long Shots, 67/8/$91.20; Best Bets, 8/2/$5.60

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #2 Silver Morgan (7/2) in race 5 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Mighty Zealous ran out at Aqueduct. Stats – 73/41/$391.50; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
