Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, June 19

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 5 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

1 Haleys Rainbow – FTS from the Kathy Walsh barn has been working well at Los Alamitos; we’ll be in Orange County in a couple of weeks.

2 Caval – This filly cost $150K at Keeneland and is from the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; watch the tote board for additional clues.

Long Shot – 5 So You Say

Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 Antinanco – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low class; has run two decent speed figure races for Bruce Headley.

3 Juliet’s Tizzy – Tepid chalk in a wide open affair; Doug O’Neill barn also dropping to the bottom in search of a graduation victory.

Long Shot – 5 Sudden Rumor

Race 3 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 Remarkable Moon – Third start off a 13-month hiatus; should show even more progress today in a wide open turf route scrum.

5 Another Sky – Was beating easier in a maiden claiming $50K; taking the biggest class rise in racing, facing winners for the first time.

Long Shot – 6 Scooter Bird

Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

5 Magic Mark – Sandwiched a poor race two back with two sharp victories; has shown he does not need the early lead to succeed.

3 Secretsatmidnight – Gets class relief from the Grade 3 Precisionist for this; might be a confidence builder by crafty Bob Baffert.

Long Shot – 2 Tiz Dynamic

Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 Superboot – Was claimed cheap by Peter Miller and showed immediate improvement; key may have been a return to grass for this Euro bred.

2 Warrior’s Ridge – His two races down the hillside turf course are both positive efforts; like the way Kent Desormeaux is riding now.

Long Shot – 6 Aerial Dancer

Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Queen of the Hill – Was claimed for $8K by Doug O’Neill and has been very productive; dirt is clearly her preferred surface.

3 Fly to Freedom – Claimed four races ago by Peter Miller and has earned paychecks each time out; these are her friends at this level.

Long Shot – 1 Say’s Who

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 Dancer Humor – Mike Pupye has had an unlucky meet; most of his horses are live, but way too many have run second or third.

3 Maxx the Giant – Was in too deep in a fast paced hillside turf race; will enjoy the milder pace of this 2-turn mile on grass.

Long Shot – 6 Warren’s Cliff S.

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Nonna Reese – Proven to be camera shy, but others appear too slow to compete; may inherit the lead if the pacesetter keeps backing up.

6 Point Endurance – A big edge for this filly is only 2 career starts; while others are sure to be too slow, this gal can improve.

Long Shot – 8 Run Rosie Run

Best Bet – 6 Queen of the Hill (race 6)

Santa Anita Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/3/$17.40; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40

Santa Anita Park Totals – 515/139/$978.20; Long Shots, 251/32/$296.80; Best Bets, 29/9/$30.60

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #1 French Press (3/1) in race 8 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Ave’s Halo ran out at Belmont Park. Stats – 93/56/$548.80; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
