Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Apr. 25

Post Time 3 p.m.

Race 1 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

2 City Ride – Mike Harrington barn has a good resume in 2-YO baby racing; used to be housed at Hollywood, now at Los Alamitos.

3 Sweet Mz. Poppet – Been working well and gets a solid gate rider in Agapito Delgadillo; watch the tote board for additional clues.

Long Shot – 6 Wacky Miss

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 Take a Risk – Of the ones with experience, he looks much faster than the rest; key is to keep an eye on the many FTS in here.

6 Stadtpark – From clever team of Paul Aguirre and Iggy Puglisi; they had a nice batting average at the just ended SA Winter meet.

Long Shot – 3 Live Lucky

Race 3 – 7 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

9 Addendum – Hard knocking mare has been a model of consistency; claimed by Jack Carava, is spotted for immediate results.

4 Eltoninadress – Ran a gutsy second first race off the claim by Jeff Mullins; repeat effort gives him a puncher’s chance versus tougher.

Long Shot – 6 Magic Number

Race 4 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 Last Tycoon, 3-year-olds and up

4 Rookie Sensation – Tight fit in a very hard stakes race; colt has still not hit his ceiling yet, most likely in turf routes.

5 Fire With Fire – Salty wire to wire win in the San Luis Rey; long winded sort could find himself on a soft early lead.

Long Shot – 3 Joelito

Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

2 Dunmore East – Claimed by Vann Belvoir and spotted nicely for quick results; can save every inch of ground under Tyler Baze.

4 Newfound Gold – Claimed by Ted West off a daylight win over cheaper; key vote for me is leading rider Rafael Bejarano taking the call.

Long Shot – 6 Carbonite

Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Starry Skies – Been away 18-months, but showed good ability back then; has the back class, key is how fit for trainer Marty Jones.

9 Upbeat Mood – Another who showed a fondness for the hillside turf course; like the parking lot post with the rail 8 feet out.

Long Shot – 1 Hijra

Race 7 – 1 mile, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

1 I Don’t Care Who – Nice work off the claim by Jeff Mullins; like the cut back in distance where he should finish better tonight.

5 Bettys Bambino – Horseplayers like undefeated horses; this gelding is untested, but shows a lot of potential, we’ll see.

Long Shot – 6 Garen

Race 8 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

10 Kozani – Figures to be in front unless Rafael Bejarano can pull off a magic trick; will be helped by the turf rail out 8 feet.

6 Misdeed – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much in a fairly mundance group.

Long Shot – 8 Rob’s Pal

Best Bet – 1 I Don’t Care Who (race 7)

Santa Anita Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/5/$27.60; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Park Final Winter Meet Totals – 1,134/322/$2,061.20; Long Shots, 559/79/$847.20; Best Bets, 69/32/$146.40

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #8 Helm (5/1) in race 5 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Madame Giry ran third at Gulfstream Park paying $2.40 to show. Stats – 65/36/$348.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
